(Woodland, CA) – March 17, 2023 –The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office will honor crime victims during the 2023 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week with the 17th Annual Crime Victims’ Tribute.
This year’s theme is “Elevate. Engage. Effect Change,” and crime victims will be recognized during the week of April 23 – 29, 2023. Yolo County Victim Services Division will emphasize the importance of giving survivors and their families a voice, and continuing to educate individuals, service providers, and communities to respond to crime and support the ongoing healing process of victims and survivors.
National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is an opportunity to renew our commitment to underserved crime victims, to create and establish partnerships, to enhance services and offerings from local providers, and to ensure that all victims of crime receive the necessary support to address their victimization and begin the healing process on their own terms.
As a community, we are all affected when our family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and acquaintances are victims of crime. We also have an obligation to bring our voices together and speak for those who are vulnerable and those whose voices are weak due to being at different stages of healing from victimization. Victim Services Program Manager, Laura Valdes, stated that “It is a call of duty for all of us. The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office always looks for innovative ways to continue to assist victims to become survivors. Our latest effort is the creation of ‘HEAR US YOLO,’ a group of survivors who provide a strong voice when it comes to victim issues. Survivors speak from experience and ‘Elevate. Engage. Effect Change’.”
Yolo County Victim Services will begin National Crime Victims’ Rights Week with their annual Crime Victims’ Tribute, which honors Yolo County crime victim survivors, their families and those that advocate on their behalf. The event will be held on April 25, 2023, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm., at the Woodland Opera House, located at 340 Second Street, in Woodland.
The entire community is invited to the event to join us as we pay tribute to individuals who are part of our strong community, not only as victims but as survivors.
