Officer Involved Incidents

The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office investigates and independently reviews all officer-involved incidents resulting in injury or death to others. The review addresses whether the officer(s) involved committed any violation of law which can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Our review does not consider issues of civil liability, police tactics, or department policies and procedures.

Our review of such incidents are always thorough and objective and designed to ensure that all the facts and circumstances of an event are carefully considered. We do not represent any of the parties involved in our independent review.

At the conclusion of the investigation and review, the District Attorney’s Office will often issue a written report detailing factual and legal findings. The report(s) are available to the public.

Our practice in officer involved incident reviews is to refrain from public comment beyond the publication of the letter to the involved law enforcement agency and any press release regarding the letter.
