Woodland, CA — Yolo County District Attorney’s Victim Services Program will commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) from April 6–12, 2025, by hosting the 19th Annual Victim Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony will be held at the Woodland Opera House on April 8, 2025, at 12 noon.
The ceremony will honor survivors, crime victims and their families who have traveled through the often-difficult court system. We believe they should be recognized for gaining strength and resilience through the process.
This year’s NCVRW theme—Kinship, Connecting, Healing—recognizes that shared humanity drives vital connections to services, rights, and healing. Kinship is where victim advocacy begins.
This annual observance challenges us to build a world where every connection built through kinship between survivors, advocates, and communities holds the potential to heal. It asks us to ensure that resources are available to all survivors and that we show up for one another with empathy and intention.
“If we can connect with crime victims at the beginning of the case and keep them informed of their rights, we can build a relationship of trust and respect,” states Laura Valdes, Program Manager for Yolo District Attorney Victim Services Program. “We want to be that contact person, their advocate, when they have a question or concern because they deserve transparency throughout the court process.”
Yolo County Victim Services Program has also requested the Yolo County Board of Supervisors to proclaim April 6-12, 2025, as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week 2025 at the Board of Supervisors meeting on April 8, 2025. These events are open to the public and members of the press.
NCVRW began in 1981 to honor victims and survivors of crime, raise awareness of victims’ rights and services and recognize the dedication of those who work with crime victims.
