Denis Bugreyev had been previously released on $0 Bail
(Woodland, CA) – September 18, 2020 — West Sacramento man, Denis Bugreyev, was charged with attempted murder and a weapons enhancement for use of a knife and inflicting great bodily after being arrested by the West Sacramento Police Department on September 15, 2020. Bugreyev, age 25, was also charged in the same complaint with battery causing serious bodily injury and use of a knife.
Less than one month earlier, on August 18, 2020, Bugreyev had been placed on felony probation, after being convicted in Yolo County for assault by means of force causing great bodily injury. Between the time he was placed on probation and his arrest for attempted murder, Bugreyev was arrested on five separate occasions for committing other crimes.
One week after being placed on probation, on August 25, 2020, Bugreyev was arrested by the West Sacramento Police Department for felony possession of a concealed dirk or dagger and giving a false name to a peace officer. As a result of Yolo County’s ongoing use of the Statewide Emergency Bail Schedule, Bugreyev was released on $0 bail on August 26, 2020. The following day Bugreyev was arrested for public intoxication and released with a notice to appear in court. He was arrested on August 28, 2020, for violation of a court order and released the same day with a notice to appear. On September 1, 2020, he was again arrested for violation of a court order and again released the same day with a notice to appear.
Following the September 15, 2020, arrest for attempted murder, Bugreyev remained in custody with bail set. He was arraigned on September 17, 2020, in Department 1 of the Yolo County Superior Court on multiple complaints. The first complaint alleged attempted murder, use of a knife, inflicting great bodily injury, and battery causing serious bodily injury with use of a knife from September 15, 2020, arrest. The second complaint alleged felony stalking, alleged to have occurred between August 19, 2020, and September 13, 2020, as well as six counts of violating a court order. The third complaint alleged possession of a concealed dirk or dagger and giving false name to a peace office from August 25, 2020. He was also arraigned on a violation of probation.
Bugreyev entered a not guilty plea. His next court date is October 1, 2020, in Department 14 for a preliminary hearing. Bail is set at no bail in the attempted murder case.
As a result of the COVID-19, the California Judicial Council enacted several emergency rules including the Statewide Emergency $0 Bail Schedule. In June, the Judicial Council rescinded its order mandating the Emergency Bail Schedule. The Yolo County Superior continues to use the Emergency Bail Schedule.
