Franklin Wesley of Sacramento was sentenced to 3 years 8 months in state prison
(Davis, CA) – February 24, 2015 – Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig announced that on February 20, 2015, 23-year-old Franklin Sone Wesley was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison after a jury convicted him of beating a victim outside a restaurant in Davis, CA.
On May 25, 2013, Wesley attacked the victim directly outside of the Ketmoree Thai Restaurant and Bar located off of G Street in Davis. At approximately 1:40 a.m., the victim was standing just outside the front of the bar talking with other witnesses when he was attacked by Wesley from behind and propelled through a fence onto the street. Witnesses testified that the altercation was unprovoked. The attack was captured on surveillance footage.
After the victim was knocked into the road, witnesses testified that Wesley kicked him in the head 10 to 12 times as he was helpless on the ground in the fetal position. The victim was knocked unconscious and never had the opportunity to defend himself.
Two good Samaritans attempted to come to the aid of the unconscious victim, but their efforts were quickly thwarted by Wesley and several of Wesley’s friends. A second victim was also knocked unconscious by the other men who were with Wesley. The victims all recovered and none of them suffered permanent injuries.
After the altercation, Wesley fled with his group. He was later contacted near the intersection of 1st and E Streets by the Davis Police Department. During that contact Wesley threatened to kill a uniformed police officer and had to be restrained.
On October 24, 2014, a Yolo County jury found Wesley guilty of battery causing serious bodily injury, assault likely to produce great bodily injury, and resisting arrest by threats of violence.
On February 20, 2015, the Honorable Judge David Reed sentenced Wesley to three years and eight months in state prison.
