(Woodland, CA) October 18, 2019 – Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig welcomed seniors to the 12th annual Yolo County Senior Resource & Crime Prevention Fair on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. Over 150 seniors attended this event located at University Covenant Church, marking the first year the event was hosted in Davis.
Seniors received useful information and resources on fraud prevention, assisted living, health benefits, legal services, and housing from 68 partnering agencies, as well as a document shredding service located on-site. Police departments of Yolo County joined to spread awareness to inform, educate, and empower local senior citizens to avoid victimization of fraud and scams. The Californian senior living facility in Woodland catered the event, providing visitors with delicious breakfast before they headed off to learn various ways to prevent fraud and scams targeted towards senior citizens.
At this year’s event 90 people received flu shot vaccinations through a collaboration with the Yolo County Health Department. This was an excellent opportunity to provide this public service to seniors who often can’t afford to pay for flu shots on their own.
University Covenant Church Pastor John Fanous stated he was pleased with the partnership between the church and the District Attorney’s office. “I’m so pleased we could assist by hosting this wonderful event for the seniors throughout the county. The educational component, food, and free flu shots made this event outstanding,” said Fanous.
DA Jeff Reisig helped kick off the event along with Yolo County Supervisor Jim Provenza, Davis Police Chief Darren Pytel, and Woodland Police Chief Derek Kaff welcoming seniors, thanking those who participated and the University Covenant Church, and showing commitment to protect seniors in our community moving forward. Reisig stated, “We are committed to community outreach efforts that increase awareness to help prevent fraud-related crimes that affect our seniors.”
