(Woodland, CA) – September 21, 2021 – On September 20, 2021, a Yolo County jury found 23-year-old Woodland man Nathan Dominguez guilty of kidnapping for robbery, kidnapping, two counts of first degree robbery, first degree burglary, three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, dissuading a witness by force or threat of force, evading a police officer with reckless driving, possession of ammunition by a felon, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. The jury additionally found that Dominguez committed crimes while armed with a firearm, and while his accomplice was also armed with a firearm.
On October 12, 2020, the victims were hanging out at the Woodland apartment of one of the victim’s. One of the victims went downstairs to smoke a cigarette when he was confronted by Dominguez and Dominguez’ friend, Russel Hohman. Hohman and Dominguez both displayed semiautomatic pistols while Hohman demanded the victim walk upstairs, against his will, back to the apartment and knock on the door. When the second victim opened the door, Hohman struck him on the head with his pistol. Hohman stole $3000 and several valuable items from the apartment while Dominguez held both victims at gunpoint and took their cell phones. The victims were told not to call the police or they would be killed. The victims alerted police anyway, and Hohman, while armed with a pistol, was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol shortly thereafter while driving the victim’s vehicle. The victims positively identified Hohman as one of the two home invasion suspects, and both later identified Dominguez as the second suspect when presented photographic lineups by Woodland Police Department detectives. Woodland Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Dominguez.
On January 13, 2021, the Woodland Police Department attempted to arrest Dominguez after seeing him driving a vehicle in Woodland. Dominguez failed to pull his vehicle over and led officers on a 7-mile, high speed pursuit through the streets of Woodland. Dominguez’ driving was so dangerous that officers decided to call off the pursuit for the safety of the public. Dominguez’ vehicle was quickly found abandoned with a bag of .38 caliber ammunition in the trunk. Witnesses in the area saw Dominguez jumping over a fence into the backyard of a nearby house. He was later found hiding inside the backyard of a neighboring home, trying to destroy his cell phone. Woodland detectives later searched Dominguez’ phone and found numerous photographs of pistols similar to those described by the victims in the home invasion, as well as social media accounts and letters with the Yolo County Jail tying Dominguez to Hohman.
In December, 2020, Hohman was convicted of kidnapping, robbery, and vehicle theft based on his role in the home invasion after entering a no contest plea to those charges.
Sentencing for Dominguez is currently set for December 10, 2021, at 9:00 AM in Department 8 of the Yolo County Superior Court, before the Honorable Judge Peter Williams. Dominguez faces a maximum prison commitment of life in prison with the possibility of parole.
