(Woodland, CA) – June 13, 2019 – On June 11, 2019, a Board of Parole Hearings Commission denied convicted murderer Edward Pharr’s parole from state prison at a hearing at California Health Care Facility State Prison in Stockton. Pharr is now 45 years old and was living in West Sacramento at the time of the murder.
On November 11, 1998, Pharr went over to Andre Salsedo’s apartment on Pecan St. armed with a shotgun. Pharr had a brief conversation with Salsedo, and then shot Salsedo through the door of the apartment, killing Salsedo. After a Yolo County jury convicted Pharr of Second Degree Murder, the trial judge sentenced Pharr to 16-years-to-life in prison for the murder.
Yolo County Supervising Deputy District Attorney Garrett Hamilton argued against his release, and Pharr ultimately agreed that he was not suitable at this time for release. When asked what he had done since his last hearing to prepare for his release, Pharr said “I can’t really say.” This was Pharr’s third parole hearing. The Board of Parole commissioners made several recommendations to Pharr to increase his likelihood of a parole grant at his next hearing. He will be eligible for parole again in three years.
