(Woodland, CA) – August 3, 2021 – On July 30, 2021, 35 year-old Jasyn Bigasan-Carter, of Sacramento, pled no contest to multiple crimes including sex trafficking a minor, pimping a minor, felon in possession of a firearm, and dissuading a witness.
In April 2020, West Sacramento Police responded to a domestic violence call at a motel on West Capitol Avenue. They contacted the first victim, who had recently turned 18 years old, and learned that she had been trafficked by Mr. Bigasan-Carter for the previous two months. West Sacramento Police Detectives immediately opened an investigation and discovered a second minor victim who lived out of county. The lengthy investigation that followed, which was aided by Yolo County District Attorney Investigators, revealed that Mr. Bigasan-Carter had been involved in human trafficking since January 2020.
District Attorney Jeff Reisig stated, “Survivors of human trafficking are affected by these crimes for the rest of their lives. Traffickers often target vulnerable victims, including minors, and use force, fear and coercion to control them. If it weren’t for the first brave victim who came forward and identified her exploiter to law enforcement, these crimes would have continued, likely victimizing more minors or young adults.”
Judge David Rosenberg is scheduled to sentence Mr. Bigasan-Carter on September 30, 2021. Mr. Bigasan-Carter is facing 29 years and 4 months in state prison.
