Press Release

(Woodland, CA) – May 29, 2019 – On May 23, 2019, special agents from the California Department of Justice along with investigators from the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office conducted a countywide operation to locate and remove firearms from certain individuals. The operation was focused in individuals who are prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition according to the California Department of Justice Armed Prohibited Person System (APPS). The team visited 20 locations throughout Yolo County where there were fifteen individuals who have registered firearms which they can no longer legally possess as a result of a criminal conviction or a mental health commitment.

During the operation, agents and investigators seized five handguns. Two handguns were seized in the City of Winters and one in the City of West Sacramento. During the seizure of the handgun at the West Sacramento address, investigators learned that the individual who lived at this address also had other firearms that were being stored at a residence in Sacramento. Agents drove to the Sacramento address and seized two additional handguns. No arrests were made at the time; however, the details of each case will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office for charges.

District Attorney Jeff Reisig said “The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office is committed to preserving the safety of our communities and keeping firearms out of the hands of individuals that are prohibited from owning or possessing them.”
