Press Release

(West Sacramento, CA) – April 9, 2018 – Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig announced that on April 9, 2018, Yolo County Superior Court Judge Janene Beronio sentenced 24-year-old Stephon Ramirez of West Sacramento to 13 years and 8 months in state prison. She also sentenced him to an additional 8 months state prison on a case for which he had been on probation.

On March 1, 2018, a Yolo County jury convicted Ramirez and another defendant, 32-year-old Jason Lopez, also of West Sacramento, of an attempted shooting at an occupied vehicle. The jury also convicted both defendants of committing the crime for the benefit of a street gang (the “Broderick Boys”) and being prohibited persons in possession of a firearm.

After the jury returned guilty verdicts, the jury heard further evidence that defendant Lopez had prior “Strike” convictions for assault with a firearm and assault with a knife. The jury found both prior allegations to be true. Judge Beronio is scheduled to sentence Lopez on May 10, 2018. Lopez is facing life in state prison.
