PRESS RELEASE ~ Yolo County Seniors Receive Valuable Information at District Attorneys Resource Fair

(Woodland, CA) October 31, 2018 – Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig welcomed seniors to the 11th annual Yolo County Senior Resource & Crime Prevention Fair On Friday October 26, 2018. Over 170 seniors attended this event located at the Woodland Community Center in Woodland, CA.

Seniors were provided useful information and resources, as well as a document shredding service located on site. The Californian senior living facility in Woodland catered the event, providing visitors with delicious breakfast before they headed off to learn various ways to prevent fraud and scams targeted towards senior citizens.

“We’ve been coming every year for the past few years,” Marlene, an attendee of the event shared, “We’ve learned a lot through this event.”

Visitors were able to speak with over 60 outreach partners to receive information on fraud prevention, assisted living, health benefits, legal services, and housing. Police departments of Yolo County joined to spread awareness to inform, educate, and empower local senior citizens to avoid victimization of fraud and scams.

Sally of Woodland stated the Senior Resource & Crime Prevention fair “covered every topic A-Z.” Throughout the event, visitors were able to take part in the free raffle to win various prizes including gift certificates, gift baskets, and various services provided by participating outreach partners.

Deputy Chief of Woodland Police Department Derek Kaff and Yolo District Attorney Jeff Reisig both spoke at the beginning of the event, thanking those who participated as well as those who attended the Senior Resource & Crime Prevention Fair.

Reisig stated, “We are committed to community outreach efforts that increase awareness to help prevent fraud-related crimes that affect our seniors.”
