The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office would like to warn you about scams using prepaid money cards. Recently there have been a lot of reports of scammers calling over the phone and saying you owe money to the IRS, or you owe money for a warrant, or money to a debt collection agency. They request that you purchase a prepaid money card and transfer the money to them over the phone by scratching off the strip on the back and reading to them the security code. Once you do this, your money is in their possession and it cannot be returned. Be cautious when asked to transfer money over the phone using prepaid money cards.
